What can I expect

Main orchestral season

The BPO’s main orchestral season is presented in Brighton Dome Concert Hall between October and March, with concerts taking place on Sunday afternoons at 2.45pm and lasting for approximately two hours including an interval.  Programmes are deliberately varied in order to include old favourites but also to introduce the audience to works and composers with whom they may not be so familiar.  Generally concerts open with an overture followed by a concerto, then, after a 20 minute interval, a symphony.  The BPO attracts a very high calibre of soloists and guest conductors to perform with them.

Each concert is preceded by a Pre-Concert Interview where the guest soloist and/or conductor is interviewed at 1.45pm for approximately half an hour.

The exception to this format is the BPO’s traditional New Year’s Eve Viennese Gala concert which takes place at 2.45pm on New Year’s Eve.  The orchestra presents a programme of waltzes, polkas and marches by the Strauss family who dominated the 19th century Viennese musical scene, and music by their contemporaries such as Franz Lehár.  Please note that there is no Pre-Concert Interview on New Year’s Eve.

See our Concerts page for more details about individual concerts and programmes.
